LA TANNERIE FAVRE

Located in a small village at the bottom of the Tarentaise Valley, in Seez, with two centuries experience of leather work, FAVRE Tannery has been a family business since 1805.
The family inheritance and the duty to maintain the local artisanal fabric mean that Philippe Favre continues to keep this tannery alive. While actually leather tannery has not occurred since the 1980s, we can still smell the leather impregnated in the walls.
Philippe still works with leather and devotes himself to the specialty of harnessing: bell mounting. This age-old activity in this breeding region consists of making, decorating and fitting the leather belts to the bells traditionally worn by the Sable or Abundance cows.
He has created a small museum in the basement in the old workshop, and sells in his shop all kinds of bells, leathers and skin products.
